Studio Child at Teatr Zar Intensive 2026
This month, from July 14-30th, four actors from Studio Child will travel to Poland to participate in intensive training with Teatr ZAR. For two weeks, these actors will live and work with an international group of theater artists, immersed in the rigorous physical, vocal, and collaborative practice for which Teatr ZAR is known worldwide.
The intensive takes place at the Grotowski Institute’s Brzezinka forest base, located about 40 kilometers outside Wrocław, Poland. Founded in the 1970s by avant-garde director Jerzy Grotowski, this historic site has long served as a home for experimental theater research and practice.
This experience will serve as a touchstone for the Studio’s burgeoning artistic culture, a groundwork to be shared with the broader company back in NYC, and a catalyst for the ensemble’s ongoing laboratory work on its next daring theatrical project.
We are raising funds to support airfare, workshop fees, and travel expenses for the four participating actors undertaking this unique artistic expedition. Your support directly enables this one-of-a-kind training and invests in the future work of Studio Child.
Participating Studio Child Members:
Lydia Brinkmann
Carmen Ezcurra
James Majewski
Peter Murphy
Ways your gift can help:
$50 helps provide meals
$100 helps support workshop fees and accommodation
$250 helps offset airfare
$900 sponsors one actor’s full airfare or training costs
We are so grateful for your support! Please spread the word and offer what you can -- even the smallest gift makes a big difference for these performers and the Studio.

"My first residency in Brzezinka alongside members of Teatr ZAR was a watershed moment for me as an artist. It changed me on a cellular level. Returning a second time years later, I came back to New York City afterward determined to establish a studio where a similar line of practice could be pursued in the United States. The 'DNA' of Brzezinka already lives in Studio Child. With this opportunity, it becomes a collective experience—no longer something for me to communicate and others to imagine, but a common touchstone we will share. It would be a watershed moment for our work."
- James Majewski, Studio Child Artistic Director
